Clean cut files, not just pictures of puzzles

Most puzzle templates draw every piece as its own closed shape, so a laser cuts each edge twice: once for each neighbouring piece. This generator exports every shared edge exactly once, as long continuous lines across the board, plus a separate border. The cut is faster, the edges are cleaner and the pieces fit better.

The SVG is drawn at real size in millimetres, so it imports at the right size without rescaling. Change the tab size for chunkier or slimmer knobs, add randomness so no two pieces look alike, and round the corners of the board.

Choose the Classic layout for a regular grid, or the Smart (Voronoi) layout for organic, irregular pieces. Then pick a connector shape such as Mushroom, Dovetail or Heart, or design your own.

How to make a jigsaw puzzle template

  1. Pick a size preset or type your own width and height.
  2. Choose how many pieces you want, then adjust tab size and randomness.
  3. Press Shuffle until you like the piece shapes. Add a photo if you are printing.
  4. Download the SVG for cutting, or the PNG or PDF for printing.

Which file should you download?

SVG for laser cutters, CNC and Cricut

Import the SVG into LightBurn, xTool Studio, the Glowforge app or Cricut Design Space and set the lines to cut. The inner lines and the border are separate groups, so you can cut the inside first and the border last, which stops pieces shifting while they are cut.

PDF for printing at home or in class

Print / PDF opens your browser's print dialog at the exact page size. Choose Save as PDF to keep a file, or print straight onto card stock, then cut along the lines with scissors or a craft knife.

PNG for photo puzzles

Add a photo to put the cut lines on top of your picture. The PNG is rendered at 300 dpi, ready for a photo printer or a print shop. Choose white lines on dark photos and dark lines on light ones.

Tips for laser-cut puzzles

  • For 3 mm plywood or MDF, pieces of 20 mm or more are easier to cut cleanly and to handle.
  • A larger tab size holds pieces together better in thin or slippery materials such as acrylic.
  • Engrave or print your picture first, then cut, without moving the material in between.
  • Run a small test with a few pieces to check fit before cutting a full board.

Frequently asked questions

Is the jigsaw puzzle generator free?

Yes. Every size, piece count and download (SVG, PNG and PDF) is free, with no account, no watermark and no limit on how many templates you make.

Will my laser cut each edge twice?

No. Each shared edge between two pieces is exported once, as long continuous lines, so your laser or cutting machine never traces the same edge twice. That saves time and gives cleaner edges.

Which file should I use for a laser cutter or Cricut?

Use the SVG. It is drawn at real size in millimetres with thin lines, so LightBurn, xTool Studio, Glowforge and Cricut Design Space import it at the right size. Use PNG or Print / PDF when you want to print the template or print a photo with the cut lines on it.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The photo never leaves your device. It is only used to draw the preview and to build the PNG and PDF in your browser.

Can I make the same puzzle again later?

Yes. The same size, piece count and settings give the same grid; use Shuffle to get a new set of piece shapes until you like one, then download it.

Can I play the puzzle online instead?

Yes. GoPuzzleGo turns any photo into a jigsaw you can play in your browser, alone or with friends, from 4 to 4,000 pieces.
